  1. @prrsnikety, and as necessary, we go into the system registry, system files, and background services to manually remove any malware that has deeply infested itself. “Adware search & destroy” is not a tool in our arsenal, sorry dick wade.

  2. @prrsnikety , $199.99….try anywhere else, its actually pretty competitive price wise, the work is also guaranteed for 30 days, and you get to physically see what work was performed, not go by what some “computer guy” tells you was done. If you weren’t such an idiot you would know that us Geeks have our own repair environment and we have 7 licensed malware removal tools which I cannot disclose that are used in a combination in the L.A.S.E.R removal engine in an environment outside of windows.

  3. @bigduey69 And how much does “Geek Squad” charge to remove the spyware from a machine. I believe it’s like 70 dollars? And what software do they use, oh Adaware and Search & Destroy. Two free to download programs that can be used by anyone. Pretty funny.

beware of repair shops takeing high-end parts and replaceing them with low-end cpu’s memory exe…

  5. just by a mac far less problems and the genius bar fixes everything

  6. I work as a CIA with Geek Squad and its not as bad as all of you are saying it is. A lady came in just earlier, said that her new CD-ROM drive wasn’t working after a week, I simply opened the case, tried a different molex connector, walah, have a nice day! NO charge. Just because of a few shitty Agents you shouldn’t judge a whole organization, just some thought.

  7. for a simple problem like that I can fix it for $2.00..

now if you want to refurbish it I charge you 140.00

  8. i loved this video i wanna more

  9. Not So Best Buy’s Joke Squad is TERRIBLE. Most PCs worked on by the Geek Squad prior to the visit to our store are normally half-ass (half ass is being too kind, more like a quarter-ass) jobs that I end up having to fix.
At our shop we would have not only done it for free, but we would have also showed them what came unplugged.
Big Box corporations will charge you your soul, liver and first born child to fix your computer, mom & pops shops don’t.

  10. I think when they said the jumper set was wrong on the hard drive, they probably looked at the computer and thought they removed the cable themselves by acident or it happened during transit, and maybe they did change the jumpers on the hard drive, even though they didn’t need too. Honestly this is redic easy, when you turn it on it will just say NTLDR is missing.

  11. @3:08

They should have given that honest computer shop a little more promotional air time. Would have spiked their sales. Damn reporters always screwing the good guys…

  12. Rhinopotamuss 26. Jul, 2010 at 2:56 pm

That geek said it was the jumper? What a dickweed, I would have jumped him there and then with a metal baseball bat!

  20. Z wow! hi :) ur REALLY cute. hit me up! i have a webcam and get naked on it all the time! LOL =) G

  21. my boyfriend and i just broke up!

  22. bearprovedyouwrong 26. Jul, 2010 at 8:30 pm

And you said ” No way would a BestBuy worker would do that.” Oh yeah right, Nobody can make a mistake all BestBuy employees are perfect and infallible NOT! I have been to many Best Buys and most are dumbshits like you. So now according to you the Video cam is lying to. Your Geek ass highschool idiots at BestBuy are mostly fuckups like you.

  23. bearprovedyouwrong 26. Jul, 2010 at 8:30 pm

Your the dumbass so you think your a fucking mind reader now and know each and every employee at ALL 800 stores. You must have worked there you are a real fucktard.

  24. I didn’t say they went to 800 stores, I said they have 800 stores. Dumbass

  25. For the most part that’s true, although, I’ve seen quite a few “not so thin” people working at Best Buy too. You have to look presentable to work in retail, I wouldn’t buy a computer from someone who couldn’t dress themselves or had bad personal hygiene. I wouldn’t necessarily call them “pretty”, but that’s subjective. Also, usually it’s young people or people with VERY limited skill sets that take jobs that pay minimum wage.

  26. Magnificentexploding 26. Jul, 2010 at 9:38 pm

That’s what the Better Business Bureau is for. To help find & stop fraudulent businesses. If a computer business, or any other type of business, has ripped you off then you need to report them to your local BBB imediately!

  27. nothing like having a reporter who makes 20k a year gettin in your face.

  28. L.A. Trade and Technical College makes you an expert.

  29. @biscoito1r thats why you are broke.
there is nothing wrong with charging high prices. But they should not lie about the problem.
you don’t pay for putting the cable in. You pay for expertise to be able to diagnose what the problem is, for time, for walking into the store, etc list is long.

  30. I have a computer shop and we also charge people great amounts for such small problems…
    U know why….
Because most people will give away money with out asking what was wrong and where is the faulty stuff. and why it cost that much…
    hahhahah its a good business..

  31. I’ve never used repair shops because I have no idea where they find the people that work at them. 90% of the time I know way way way more about computers than whatever moron they’ve got in there.

  32. Which is why i am very happy that i know computers inside and out, at least i know when they bullshit.

  33. CommunistSquirrel 27. Jul, 2010 at 1:40 am

I find that computers that are 10 years or older still work with the power supply units that they come with. It might depend on if the user ever turns off the computer, or dusts it out every 6 months or so…Most computer problems I’ve run into had to do with overheating/poor maintenance coupled with overuse.

  34. i would be really, really surprised if an IDE-cable popped out all byt itself… its more logical to assume its the PSU thats broken, because in most REAL malfunctions it all comes to a bad PSU. thats a first, normal conclusion anyone would do who knows something about computers

however, if you open up the box and dont notice the cable is unplugged. you are just bad.

  35. a lot of sneaky stuff goes on in this business, I used to manage a repair shop.
first rule of troubleshooting is to open and visually look at things.
In other words do all the easy things first, where did I learn that? well I worked for AT&T as a telecommunications tech for many years before becoming a computer repair person.

  36. the cost of living varies in different places. They gotta pay the rent!
If you call a plumber in LA he will charge at least $75 to just show up!

the anchor looks like he was stoned

  38. friggerDrCube 27. Jul, 2010 at 3:32 am

@Ozarkagain they had a huge stack of PCs, it wasnt the same computer each time.

  39. The4LA2Baker0 27. Jul, 2010 at 4:24 am

i would have put the cable in gratis, but found something else wrong with the computer to make money from. viruses, registry errors ect… that’s how you get more cash legitimately. almost every computer has SOMETHING wrong. if not they probably know enough to fix it themselves.

  40. I know a friend that would probably charge $80 buks and tell the custumers the machine had a virus and lots off bull

  41. Yea, thats really some bull shit that they do that… espically the way the economy is… I would never do some shit like that… I don’t want to make a bad reputation for my self.

  42. Any computer that is legitimately brought in for an issue is not going to have a computer cable randomly unplugged, unless someone has opened the case. In the future, try something like bridging some points on one of two ram sticks and seeing if they people can figure it out. Also: The computer played hot potato with different stores. It’s possible that during the hot potato things would go wrong. Did you check the computer out between each visit to make sure other stores didn’t damage it?

  43. First thing to check with all computer faults are cables.

  44. … My 8 year old sister could figure that out… I understand that most companies charge a fee to look at it but for $100 to look at it? for a minor problem no way. I can understand if it were a virus but something like a loose cord. Nah free

  45. chucknorris687 27. Jul, 2010 at 6:45 am

Once again the NEWS is wrong on most of these cases !! Most PC repair businesses charge a diagnostic fee to look at the machine, and then to fix it, a fixing fee. Although in this case they should have probably just fixed the PC for free since any half brain dead PC tech could eye this in a second!! LOL here’s a computer related joke for you all ; there are only 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don’t!!lol get it?

  46. InfektionFoxtrot 27. Jul, 2010 at 7:23 am

Scam is the name of the game for america now. In order not to get scammed nowadays you have to do everytihng yourself.

  47. I would be ashamed to charge anyone for a repair like that.

  48. These are not, ‘accidents’, they are blatant cases of fraud. It isstill a wilderness out there, and you can only count on yourself and those you trust.
It seems those you pay will just feed off of you without shame or responsibility.

  49. Thats what you get for taking your computer to a store. Learn to do it yourself its not too hard

  50. Before you get your computer fix, call Fertech Computer Repair, there number is 312-735-1788. My friend call them and got his computer Fix for $40.00 they give you what you want plus there extremely fast. everyone is saying that Fertech Computer Repair is 100 times better then Geek Squad.
