Q&A: How can I make my computer detect my electric piano connected to it?

Question by NeverEndingFairytale: How can I make my computer detect my electric piano connected to it?
They are connected using a stereo jack lead from the microphone jack at the back of my computer to the line-out port on my piano, but when I select control panel > sound then select the recording tab, it says no audio devices are installed.
Im trying to record my playing on the audacity software but before that will work I need to make sure my computer is detecting the sound, which its not.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

The piano shouldn’t be plugged in to the microphone jack. You might be able to get it to work if you have a blue line in jack on your sound card, but the chances are slim you will. Your best bet is to buy a dedicated piano USB cable from your piano to your desktop/laptop.
