Q&A: What is the difference between a server and a PC ?

Question by IlliniGeek: What is the difference between a server and a PC ?
If I load all my software to a dedicated server can I access the software from my PC and laptop ?
Please note my laptop and PC use XP
Also note I would buy a server machine. I would then connect a PC and laptop to the server.

PC Anywhere would be a good Windows app to use for remote access.

I use a similar setup with a laptop at home, tho I use Linux and a VNC session through an SSH tunnel.
