My laptop’s LCD is producing distorted pink and green images. What are the likely causes?
Question by Courtney: My laptop’s LCD is producing distorted pink and green images. What are the likely causes?
I’m going to provide as much detail as possible, because I have seen many different answers to similar questions.
A few days ago, I had my laptop in my car. When I attempted to turn it on later, I feared that something had gone wrong, because the startup screen appeared distorted. However, after I had let the computer warm up, the display was fine. The next day, I started up Windows again after my computer had been in sleep mode, and the screen was showing signs of damage. There were pink and green speckles flashing all around the display. I had my computer in my lap, and I found that holding the computer at a certain angle returned it to it’s normal state, but the images became distorted again if I shifted it back. After a few minutes, everything was fine again. Today, I started up my computer only to be greeted by the same pink and green distortion, and this time I have not succeeded in “fixing” it.
I searched through online message boards and other Yahoo answers and found that many people were experiencing a similar problem. Some of the suggested causes were disconnected cables, broken LCDs and exposure to magnets. Based on the information I’ve given, can anyone provide a hypothesis as to what happened to my laptop? How difficult might the repair be, and how much would such a repair cost?

What has happened to your computer is called “thermal creep” going from hot to cold or cold to hot along with the case flexing, causes parts to shift and become loose. If it is still under warranty send it back, if not take it to a QUALIFIED person. Someone that holds a factory certification for your make/model. What they will do is disassemble the unit, clean the connections, and 99% of the time this will correct the problem. When you get it back, always pick up a laptop with both hands, and never leave it in extreme temps.
I own an IT company and I cooked my laptop last summer, left it in the trunk of the car on the hottest day of the year…I still have not lived that down! My tech keep asking if I am going to make some more BBQ Trunk Chips this summer (referring to my laptop)
you should be fine, but like I said, make sure they are Factory Qualified to work on your baby…do not take it to the G**k Squad.
