help with wireless internet??
Question by Darling, Be Human: help with wireless internet??
i got a gateway laptop over a year ago and in the first month i got someone from the geek squad to come to my house to give me the verizon internet box. then months after that the hinge broke on my computer so best buy had to ship it out to get it repaired. then when i got it back i didn’t have wireless internet and all of the stuff on my computer was gone! anyway i fixed all of the stuff that got removed by downloading EVERYTHING again, but the problem i still have is the internet. and ever since then i have to plug in a wire for it to work, its a huge pain! does anyone know how i can get wireless internet without someone coming to my house or taking it to best buy?!

did you configured the tcp ip for the wireless adapter properly. also check the password for the wireless is correctly saved.
if you are using vista u can check this is network and sharing center
It sounds as though your computer was restored – which should mean that your wireless card is actually working, but is not associated with the router.
Now, to do this you will either need to find the notes that the Geek Squad left you, or call the 800-Geek Squad number to have the information given to you over the phone. They can also e-mail it to you. You need two pieces of information: the SSID and the Encryption Key.
The instructions are slightly different for Windows XP and Windows Vista, but not much. Either way, you select your network icon (either the only one on Vista or the wireless one on XP) from your system tray. On Vista, then choose select network, on XP do nothing, a list of networks will automatically open. From that list select the network that matches your SSID, and then when prompted enter your encryption key.
Once that’s done, you’ll be on the internet. And if you run in to too much trouble, Geek Squad does offer over the phone support for a lower cost than on-site.
